Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Smauth, the mobile application and related website provided by Smauth ("we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, accessing, or using Smauth, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

1. What Smauth provides

Smauth is an authenticator application that helps you generate and manage time-based and counter-based one-time passwords. Features may include QR-code and manual setup, app locking with a PIN or device biometrics, encrypted exports, importing from supported authenticator formats, and device migration.

2. Your responsibility

You are responsible for your device, the accounts you add to Smauth, and keeping recovery information and exported backups safe. Smauth cannot recover OTP secrets that you delete or lose. You must use Smauth lawfully and follow the terms of the third-party services connected to your accounts.

3. Backups and third-party storage

Where supported, Smauth may let you save backups to a storage provider such as Google Drive or a WebDAV server. You choose whether to use these features. Those providers are separate services with their own terms, availability, security practices, and privacy policies. Review backup files carefully and protect any passwords used to encrypt them.

4. Security limitations

We use reasonable technical measures in the design of Smauth, but no software, device, or storage system is completely secure. Smauth does not guarantee uninterrupted operation, error-free code generation, or protection against every possible threat. Keep your device and operating system updated and maintain an independent recovery method for important accounts.

5. Open source software and branding

The Smauth source code is released, or is intended to be released, under the GNU General Public License version 3.0 (GPLv3). Your rights to use, study, modify, and redistribute GPLv3-licensed code are governed by the GPLv3, and nothing in these Terms limits rights granted to you by that license. The applicable license text and source-code notices are available with the Smauth source distribution.

The Smauth name, word mark, logo, shield-and-S design, icons, visual identity, domain names, and other branding are not licensed under the GPLv3 and remain our intellectual property or that of our licensors. These Terms do not grant permission to use them as a trademark, imply endorsement, or create confusion about the origin of a modified or redistributed version. You may identify unmodified or modified GPLv3 software as Smauth where the GPLv3 permits, but you must not use our branding in a way that suggests we sponsor, certify, or distribute your version. Any broader use of Smauth branding requires our written permission.

6. Availability and changes

We may change, suspend, or discontinue features, including features provided during testing. We may update these Terms when our service changes or when required by law. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms.

7. Disclaimers

Smauth is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties not expressly stated in these Terms, including implied warranties of fitness, merchantability, and non-infringement.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for loss of data, access, profits, or goodwill arising from your use of Smauth. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
